The Summer Bird Walk took place on the morning of 13 August – a mild but grey day following cloudy weeks. Five people participated, and – despite the fact that August is usually regarded as the quietest month of the year for birdwatching – 27 species were recorded. Nine species recorded during the previous year’s Summer Bird Walk were not recorded this time: Skylark, Swift, Song Thrush, Whitethroat, Blackcap, Rook, House Sparrow, Bullfinch and Yellowhammer. On the other hand, seven species were noted this year which had not been recorded on the 2010 Summer walk: Starling, Swallow, Robin, Pheasant, Marsh Tit, Goldcrest, and Chaffinch.
